Ask the experts

AJ v Povetkin

By Paul Humphreys   - @intuboxing

Later on this evening at Wembley stadium live on Sky Sports Box office Anthony Joshua defends his IBF WBO WBA and IBO world heavyweight titles against the Dangerous Russian contender, former WBA champ Alexander Povetkin.

We asked numerous boxing coaches fighters and journalists for their expert prediction.

Here's what they had to say.

Ryan Walsh British Featherweight champion

"Yes well to might have to drop the “expert” to huge boxing fan this LoL & as a huge boxing fan I know there’s no certainty in any prediction especially the HW division!! I can sum that up in two words... Buster Douglas!

My prediction for tonight is a late stoppage win for AJ between 8/10 I think going off the Takam fight AJ struggles with smaller opponents with good lateral movement., plus Povetkin is also a seasoned pro who has outstanding amateur pedigree. I see a cagey tactical fight early but expect AJ to stand landing big long shots from 6 onwards with Povetkin getting very tired.

Povetkin is very dangerous & I’m sure AJ and his team are very aware of this especially early!! Interestingly Povetkin is very light which may suggest his tactics may just be to try & outbox & frustrate AJ I’m really looking forward to this fight. The clash of styles & tactics will be good to see. This one may not be a great one for the casuals. Not sure I see an AJ Klit type of war tonight!!

 AJ ko/stoppage 8/10"

Paul Humphreys C.O.O Intuboxing USA

"AJ might have to come a few hairy moments and maybe even have to get off the floor but in the end I expect the extra size and the range he's capable of finding with his jab to score a late rounds stoppage"

Dan Hewitt Head of Broadcasting Intuboxing

"There is no doubt the pedigree of Povetkin. An Olympic gold medallist and avenged all 7 losses of his amateur career, with only one loss as a professional. This fight, however, is going to be all about timing. Povetkin is on the slide and didn't look fantastic at the weigh-in. Joshua will be too big and strong for Povetkin and Joshua will stop Povetkin within 6 rounds"

Robin Reid former WBC Super middleweight champion

"I'm going to go for AJ late stoppage or possibly points"

Junior Jones former Bantamweight and Super Bantamweight champion of the world

"AJ he is the best heavyweight champion out there

AJ stops him in 5"

Douglass Fischer Editor in chief of the Ring Magazine

"Joshua by competitive unanimous decision"

Adam Abramowitz SN Boxing and panel member of the Ring Magazine

"Joshua unanimous decision"

Bradley Pryce former Commonwealth light middle weight champion

"AJ stays on the back foot for a points win after getting put down"

Nick Manners former pro boxer now pro boxing coach and Josh Warrington's second.

"After Povetkin's last showing I have to slightly now favour AJ  tho Povs pedigree cannot be ignored ..everything points to a KO Rnd 7 for me in AJs favour ...tho I shall have a cheeky £20 on PoV as the odds are too good to miss"

Lawrence Ward Head of Marketing Intuboxing Instagram.

"The fight nobody wanted to see. A prime champion against an out of date contender. There's always a puncher's chance in the HW division but Povetkin shouldn't make it past 7. I predict a 4th Round KO for AJ going off Povetkin's performance against Price last time out"

Bryan Connolly IntuBoxing

"I will say controversial Povetkin win KO round 8"

Scott Lawton former 2x English Champion and Head coach at Impact Boxing

"Aj to win by stoppage in rounds 10, 11 or 12 but he will have some scary moments. But being younger man will have the edge. AJ 100%"

Jono Carroll top super featherweight contener

"AJ all day long. They won't risk a close fight. He's the golden goose :). so AJ won't lose. Put your house on it"

Jamil Parker lead journalist Intuboxing USA

"Povetkin cannot adjust his style so he will have to come forward. Joshua is bigger, stronger and a faster fighter will stop him in the middle rds"

Gaz Taylor pro coach at Impact Boxing gym

"I see the first couple of rounds being a little tentative with both boxers trying to feel each other out. I believe Joshua will be triumphant via a late stoppage but don't be surprised if he has to get through a few rocky moments, Povetkin is certainly not to be taken lightly"

Andy Ruiz Heavyweight world title challenger

"I think AJ is gonna win by the 7th round buPovetkinin has a chance to if he make it his fight and pressure him and throwing combinations but he hasn’t fought in a long time and the rust does get to you so my prediction AJ in 6 or 7 rounds"

Jamie Buckton Intuboxing Columnist

 "Joshua TKO rounds 6-8"

Andy Shore Journalist Fight Fans Worldwide.

"I don't believe AJ is overlooking Povetkin; he's too focused and determined for that. In Rob McCracken, he has a top-class trainer that will have drilled into AJ the dangers that Povetkin poses. I believe AJ wants to stop him and if he has him hurt, he'll try to finish the show in style. However, I believe Povetkin will be very wary of AJ's power, and AJ will be wary of Povetkin's ability to punish any mistakes, so I see the fight being more cagey than most would prefer. I predict AJ to win a wide decision"

James Bell intuboxing

"AJ by 8th round stoppage"

Kerry Evans former pro boxer and licsenced Coach

"Aj win early rounds between 2-5 if he doesn’t he could struggle late rounds with povetkin being the smaller guy not carrying that extra weight could cause Joshua trouble! Wouldn’t be surprised if we see an upset"

Nicky Bundred pro coach at Impact Boxing gym

" I got the last one wrong Hahaaa, I'm going with AJ on a very close majority decision as the pedigree of Povetkin is something different."

Chris Conroy UK Boxing

"Early rounds both feeling each other out with AJ probably just nicking them, mid rounds pov will try and flip the script and possibly hurt AJ but he stays on his feet. AJ loses a couple rounds but rallies and comes back to win a few close rounds. AJ wins UD"
