BBBofC Update:

New Title Fights Announced

By Aaron Cooper   - @intuboxingfm

The British Boxing Board of Control produced its monthly circular today, and it has provided British boxing fans with a plethora of potentially fantastic fights. The big news from today’s announcement is that Matchroom’s ‘Pretty Boy’ Josh Kelly has withdrawn from his slated bout with Johnny Garton for the British Welterweight title. Promoter, Eddie Hearn seemingly having other ideas for his man. Kelly, of course, fights for the Welterweight Championship of the Commonwealth this coming Saturday at Newcastle’s Metro Arena.

Fresh off of their domestic classic on May 4th at Walsall Town Hall, British middleweights Jason Welborn and Tommy Langford will slug it out once more for what is now Welborn’s Lord Lonsdale Belt. Their first encounter was an instant classic and hopefully, the return bout will be televised.

Ted Cheeseman will look to claim his first major title as he has been mandated to fight Asinia Byfield for the vacant British super-welterweight title. Liam Williams was originally due to fight Byfield, however, he has withdrawn from proceedings. Purse bids are due on the 11th July with the fight having to take place before the end of October.

In the 140-pound division, Glenn Foot and Robbie Davies Jr have been ordered to fight for the vacant title. The purse bids are due on the 11th July, this bout too must be fought before the end of October. Akeem Ennis Brown and Joe Hughes have been ordered to fight. The will serve as an eliminator to face the eventual champion.

British featherweight champion, Ryan Walsh has been ordered to fight in a rematch with Isaac Lowe. These two men put on a great show on the undercard of George Groves vs Chris Eubank Jr back in February. The bout has been in the works for some time. The purse bids and fight date are the same as I have mentioned for other bouts.
