Breaking News: Kovalev/Browne To Fight This June

WBO Light-Heavyweight Champion, Sergey Kovalev Will Take On American Hopeful Marcus Browne Live On HBO

By Aaron Cooper

WBO Light-Heavyweight Champion, Sergey Kovalev will take on unbeaten American contender Marcus Browne later this year.

The fight will certainly be the champion's toughest test since losing his suffering back to back defeats to Andre Ward. Browne is a tricky southpaw with a great amateur pedigree, having competed at the Olympic Games in London back in 2012. Since then he has gone on to record 21 victories as a professional, 16 of those coming by way of knockout. Browne enjoyed a stellar 2017, stopping highly touted Thomas Williams Jr and Sean Monaghan in a combined total of eight rounds.

The fight will be held at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden, where Kovalev has had his last two fights. The fight will also be broadcast live on HBO. Whilst the venue has been finalised the fight is still without a date. Although it is being strongly linked with June 23rd.

Kovalev is eager to rebuild his reputation following his defeats to Ward and has gone onto record victories over Vyacheslav Shabranskyy and Igor Mikhalkin. Impressively stopping the Ukranian in the first round. A unification bout with countryman, Dmitry Bivol is being talked about. But Kovalev certainly shouldn't be looking past the hard-hitting American.
