Canelo Stripped Of WBC Rankings

Mexican Middleweight Star Refuses To Sign Up For Clean Boxing Program

The saga continues...

IntuBoxing has learned that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has been REMOVED from the WBC rankings. This is seemingly because he refused to sign up for the WBC's VADA clean boxing program.

One can only speculate that this is perhaps the clearest indication yet that Canelo may indeed be guilty of intentionally taking performance-enhancing drugs. The boxing world was robbed of what would most likely have been one of the fights of the year last week. Canelo was of course due to fight Gennady Golovkin in a rematch in Las Vegas last Saturday night. Of course, that fight will be a what could have been and not a what was.

Canelo failed two drugs tests on the 17th and 20th of February for the substance, Clenbuterol. This led to the Nevada State Athletics Commision suspending Canelo pending a further investigation. The investigation lead to Canelo been handed a six-month ban which will end in August. The ban was backdated to the date of the first test, much like the way that Tyson Fury's ban was imposed retrospectively. A hair follicle sample test was taken from the Mexican, which DID come back clean. This was enough for many, including this writer to believe that his tainted meat story held weight.

However, with this latest piece of news, the strength of Canelo's excuse grows weaker and weaker by the minute.
