Sadam Ali vs Liam Smith - May 12th

Liam Smith will get a second chance at his old WBO Light Middleweight Crown on May 12th By Aaron Cooper

We have had confirmation that Liam 'Beefy' Smith will indeed fight Sadam Ali for the WBO Junior-Middleweight Title. We broke the news last week on IntuBoxing.com that this fight was on the verge of being signed.

The venue for the fight will indeed be at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York on May 12th. The bout will be shown on HBO World Championship Boxing on the night the network will air a replay of the Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin fight which takes place the week before. This card will also start at 10 pm EST as part of a deal that was agreed in the signing of the Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jorge Linares bout. For UK fans the fight will be available on both BT Sport and BoxNation

Smith has worked his way back into title contention by becoming the mandatory challenger to Ali's title after he won an eliminator against Liam Williams in a rematch that took place last year in Newcastle.

“I’m very happy that we’ve got this fight,” said Liam Smith. “I’m looking forward to pitting myself against a good fighter in Sadam Ali, a former Olympian and now world champion who is coming off the back of a good win against Miguel Cotto. I’m confident going into this fight. I know I’m naturally the bigger man, and that will come into play, especially in the type of fight that I think it will be.”

Sadam Ali will look to continue building the momentum following his shock victory over possible future hall of famer Miguel Cotto in about that sent the Puerto Rican superstar into retirement on a low note.

“It felt great to accomplish my dream of becoming world champion,” said Sadam Ali. “I’m excited to defend my title and to demonstrate that it is not up for grabs. Liam Smith is a great fighter and I’m sure he’ll be ready, but so will I'.
