Usyk/Gassiev - The Wait Is Nearly Over!

The battle for the Undisputed Cruiserweight title has dates in the calendar

Whilst many have waited patiently for news of George Groves participation in the World Boxing Super Series Final, many seem to have forgotten there is another final to contest, and one with far more significance.

Now ladies and gentlemen, I do not want to detract from the super-middleweight final, after all it is yet another battle between two British super-middleweights further entwining Britain’s relationship with the 168-pound division.

So why is the cruiserweight final so significant some of you may ask? Simple, the fight will see the first ever four-belt undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world crowned before our very eyes. History in the making.

IntuBoxing has learned that the final, contested by WBC & WBO Champion, Oleksandr Usyk and WBA ‘Super’ & IBF champion, Murat Gassiev will take place on either the 21st or the 28th July. All indications point to the fight taking place in Russia, With the Bolshoy Ice Dome in Sochi (the venue of Gassiev’s semifinal win over Yunier Dorticos) seeming the likely venue.

Whilst Usyk was the pre tournament favourite, it is Gassiev who has garnered much attention for his performances in the tournament showing a style of fighting many had not seen before the tournament began.

#1 vs #2 for the undisputed title, my word ladies and gentlemen, 2018 is the boxing gift that just keeps on giving.
