"Am I world champ?" heard as Okolie hears the famous words.
Britain has a new world champion as Lawrence Okolie delivered on his promise of delivering the belt against the highly experienced Kristof Glowacki.
The undefeated Okolie, who has also recently launched a music career, had to weather slight storms early on in the fight, in particular as the Pole seemed happy to throw his head into the fight to disrupt Okolie’s rhythm.
The size and reach advantage were obvious from the weigh in that Okolie, if utilised, would make for a difficult evening for his counterpart.
The fourth round saw Okolie begin to leverage power shots, pushing his man back, marking the face and denting the spirit of Glowacki.
Glowacki was beginning to cut a frustrated figure. He couldn’t get close to the Londoner, who despite criticism in the past for his style looked good on his feet. An in and out style developed under Shane McGuigan was serving him well.
In the 6th, the job was done. Glowacki’s corner was getting more and more vocal while concern was growing for a cut over his eye.
More and more panicky, Glowacki came forward too fast, and was caught with a huge right. Flat on his back, the fight was over.
He did stand up just before the count, but didn’t protest when the fight was waved off.
Okolie is now a Cruiserweight world champion, who teases up to Heavyweight.
The highlight of the show, aside from the punch, Okolie was heard asking “am I a world champ?”
